LNG bunkering

STC Group first Dutch training center with LNG bunker simulator

Published on

We are part of STC Group. STC Group now is the first Dutch training institute to  have acquired a state-of-the-art LNG bunker simulator.

Within the European ReaLNG project, STC Group developed courses specifically aimed at crew on board of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuelled vessels. During this project, several new training tools were developed for the LNG IGF Code courses. STC Group now has extended this range of tools with a state-of-the-art LNG Duel Fuel bunker simulator model for the K-Sim Engine simulator platform.

This model is specifically designed for training LNG fuel handling and bunkering operations. STC Group is the first training institute in the Netherlands to use and own this new model.

This LNG engine room simulator allows STC Group to train professionals in understanding the complexities, risks and hazards of working with LNG in a safe and realistic environment. The IGF Code course at advanced level for instance, includes a bunkering procedure using simulation. This procedure is accredited by the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) and covers one of the three mandatory bunkering procedures, as required by STCW. The LNG Duel Fuel bunker simulator, a Kongsberg Digital model, will also be used to cover this mandatory bunkering procedure.

IGF Code
As of 1 January 2017, crew on board of vessels using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels need to be trained according to the IGF Code. The new courses are available at basic and advanced level and have been accredited by ILT.
